Erland,

cool thread.

While I believe that there's a lot that can be done I don't think it's
only about user interface if it comes to discovering music with or
without a Squeezebox.

I'll distinguish by "discovering my own music" and "discovering new
music" here:

1. OWN MUSIC

For my own music I usually browse by Artist or by Album and often use
Dynamic Playlists with Sugarcube to browse through that collection.
That said: at 1.000 Albums (around 10.000) tracks my collection is not
particularly big.

I may be kind of special in that while I love to see cover art, have
tagged all my albums correctly to show it and also want to see it while
browsing I don't like to SELECT music based on the cover since I find
that rather confusing (I often don't recognize music based on the
cover). CoverFlow is something I tend to show off but never ever use.

2. NEW MUSIC
As far as it goes I use Pandora and Napster a lot to discover new
stuff, usually through Artist automixes.
I used to use Last.fm for this but tfor some reason they only send
annoying crap these days, maybe I have to clean out my account or
something.
I often use the TrackInfo menus to store Albums I discover and like in
my profile to listen to them again later.

This only accounts for around 20% or so of the new music I discover.
The rest is plain old radio, which I listen to in my car so I would
need some in-car-integration.

And the vast majority is stuff I hear about from other people and that
I usually check out on YouTube, Tape.TV or similar sites (you've got
EVERYTHING on YouTube these days). IMHO, if you REALLY want to bring
music discovery on the Squeezebox forward, this is the place to
approach since this is where I have to switch media.
The Squeezebox currently mainly lacks integration for all those media
that are emerging as the new distribution channels for new music making
it difficult to really use it for discovery, I don't really see how to
get around that without tackling that integration issue.
