I've been a hardware Squeezebox user since 2004, but thought I'd pursue the ideas put forth in this thread...
I tried Squeezeslave today and alas no gapless mp3s. I tried Softsqueeze - nice, but also not quite gapless with mp3s. I tried Squeezeplay and it doesn't pick-up my audio preferences on a MacBook (it always plays sound via the inbuilt speakers rather than the usb audio device).
