That's the whole deal chuck your server in the basement control the
players from their ir-remotes controllers iPods/Phones or net books or
laptops.

Squeezeboxserver that you install in order to use the local files, has
an web interface you can use with firefox for example , many people
miss the fact that this interface is available to all PC's on the local
network(or more if you fiddle with your router) The server needs only to
be installed on one machine .So you can walk by any computer in the home
and change the music in any room .

Btw if you get more than one player they can be synced for parties or
such...
