Hi

Thanks for this, however...

The first time I installed the perl program, the installation failed
(in part). A directory called c:\perl was created and the files were
installed but a lot error messages appeared saying that the install
couldn't update the registry or path.

So I downloaded another installion based on an msi file and that seemed
to work. I tested the install by typing perl -v (as it told me to do) at
a prompt and it correctly identified the perl program.

This gave me confidence but according to the instructions on the active
site, to run a perl script, I just click on it. When I tried this by
clicking on the udap_shell program, all that happens is there is very
brief flash of an empty dos box appearing then disappearing. And that's
it. Very discouraging.

Your suggestion below is somewhat different, and any fledging
confidence I had is disappearing rapidly. This is quite difficult to
understand; everyone's help, whilst well-meaning is full of assumptions
about background understanding. Are you are saying that I need to do
more than just click on the .pl file to run it? Such as create another
command line script file that contains the command "udap_shell.pl
--local-address 192.168.x.x"? If so, how do I create such a file, what
do I name it and how to I run it? Or have I completely misunderstood
your advice.

Sorry about sounding so ignorant - but that really is my level of
knowledge ;-)

ps

I think I need to do this step by step. One thing I would like to
verify before messing with software is that my network is actually
running properly. When I take the SBR out of the box and power it up
and plug it in, I really expected some kind of feedback it is working.
There is a red light on the front but it is not flashing like the
instructions suggest. It is a steady light except it blinks once about
every 10 seconds. Is this normal?

Secondly, when I plug any network device into my router via cable, a
light on the ethernet socket on the router flashes to indicate there is
traffic on the cable. When I plug the SBR in, there is no light. Is
this normal for an unsetup box or does this indicate trouble.

Thirdly, when I access the administrator panel for the router, it has a
screen called Home network that displays a picture of the router and all
the wired and wireless devices connected to it. I can see an entry that
I think is the squeeze centre software running on my main PC emulating
a wireless device, but the router does not show an entry for the wired
SBR. Is this also what you would expect for an unconfigured SBR or does
it indicate trouble?
