Ok, that nearly worked and with a slight mo, it did. 

The extraction process put the three folders several folders down in
the structure so I cut and paste them back to the location of the
shortcut. And it now runs the perl andgives me a udap> prompt. 

That's a relief, passed the first hurdle.Thank you very much. Don't
know why the previous method didn't work but I suppose it's just one
moe mystery.

Now to hook up the cable and see if this version runs better than the
exe.
