Looks like we're doing something very similar. I ripped most of my CDs quite some time ago now and put them onto a WD My Book external HDD. Then I bought the Squeezebox Duet but found that it was a pain having to turn on the PC whenever I wanted to listen to music. Also, Squeezebox Server does affect the performance of my PC if I'm doing others things and listening to music at the same time.
