Hi all, This topic has popped up before. One of the last threads I found is by AlliumPorum: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=72021&highlight=failing+flac
In my case I also found a few Flac files in the collection of 50.000 something that stop playing at almost allways the same played time (this repeats at about the same point, within 1 or 2 secs) I'm running Squeeze Server v.7.4.1 on BSD and FreeNAS on an old PC (2.6 Mhz P4) which seems to do a decent job. Nomally less then 20 percent CPU (typically 1-5 %) and 40% memory usage. I have no doubts about the NAS capacity as I can stream three players at a time, synchronised or not, WAV, HiRes and 44kHz Flac files without problems. Except a few files! I'm using 2 SB classics and 1 Transporter The information in the previous threads describes my situation quite well. "problem always happens on the same position of the same songs!? But there does not seem to be anything wrong with the FLACs themself as they play on other apps" "Rebuffering is not the case and Wireless signal strenght is ample." I have read about complete blocking of all FLAC's version 1.1.2 and perfect working when these FLAC's were transcoded into version 1.2.1. I will look at the vesions of my Flac files, but have no info on that yet. I am opening this thread because I have one experience to add to all I have read yet. One of my SB's is installed outside my WAN and streams via the internet , thus is having limited bandwidth, causing rebuffers on most FLAC's except higher compressed ones. So I use LAME to limit the bandwidth to 320 Mbps to this player only. THIS AFFECTS THE PROBLEM! Some files allmost allways playing correctly on other players will stop on this LAME limited streamer. When I switch off bitrate limiting this player will play the files correctly. Adjusting LAME quality or Bitrate rate quantity does not seems to have effect. But switching off bitrate limit does correct the situation ( but introduces rebuffering). I am getting the impression somehow the processing of FLAC files into the stream by SC gets out of whac with cetain Flac coded files. I know FLAC coding can be adjusted in several ways (one pass, multipass etc.) but don't know what was used on my 'inherited' files. I will try and look into that. This processing gets more complicated when switching on LAME, excecerbating the problem. Can anyone relate to this? -- ScHenk ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ScHenk's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=34067 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=82175 _______________________________________________ discuss mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
