When using mysb.com to connect to play BBC Radio from UK - I think you
will get (this used to be the case last year) the international 48k
connections whereas using your own server with BBC Apps or iPlayer you
will get the higher speed (128k ?) connections. So the two cases are
not comparable as you are not connected to same service.

Have you tried seeing whether the format AAC vs WMA makes a difference.
IF there is no difference then it is probably some sort of network
issue (e.g. DNS caching).  If there is a difference and then it is
probably a local BBC server/network issue - these can affect users in
one region but not another.
