Yes, it's absolutely dead and it's not an adapter issue. I have measured the voltages - both the adapter's 5V and the internal ones -, but it's all there. Removed the Wifi card, but no signs of life anymore. It came back a few times before and played music for about 30 sec, but then the display and sound switched off and it wouldn't even start. No light on the Toslink eighter. Thanks for helping, though !
