I've read this forum for years and not noted of any unusual failure rate for any of the Squeezebox products. Remember no manufacturer, no matter how fancy the product, ever has a 100% perfect reliability record. (Also, frustration with the computer aspect of the SB devices is not the same as device failure.)
My SB3 is now 5 years old and going strong. I believe the most common problem is the display losing some characters after time, but that's hardly universal.
