i think this functions is getting very unusual these days even in top of line recievers , recievers are meant to feed digital signals , the analog in is for legacy stuff vcr and tape decks . A read many reciever manuals, a decade ago analog bypass was mentioned, but today there are for example pure direct modes, but no real explanation to what it is and manuals are very vague on the subject I think deliberatly vague.
