That part of the book was brilliant and was greatly realized in the TV series. My favorite was fire. Ford Prefect (if not him than it was Arthur Dent) suggested he put something up his nose, to which the marketing person responded "yes, that's right...would people want to have fire fitted nasally?". All of this going one while the captain of the ship sits in the bath.
