Thank you for replying, and for incorporating your DSD DataBase link.
Interesting.

My comments below I make just to show you there are many ways to view
the "market", and many ways to achieve satisfactory results, and yours
is an opinion among others (just as mine are). I'm not quite aware that
I limited the resolution or sampling rate in my statement, but perhaps
you can point that out.

The "limited thinking" that resulted in the Touch was fairly successful,
and in my opinion very elegantly achieved at a reasonable cost.

"You are just making generalizations without thinking things thru or
researching them."

How can you be so sure, rather than making an assumption, in which case
you are making the same mistake that you are claiming I'm making. ;-D

"This product needs to support at least 384k to allow support for DSD128
via DoP. You need to support this not because you personally need it,
not because of the "up market audio companies", not because of
popularity, not because of available content, but because you can."

There are many philosophies that you can base a product on. This doesn't
mean that yours is the only one, or even the right one, however strongly
you claim it. Just because it's possible doesn't mean that you need to
do it, which you are claiming, however thrilling or seductive that may
be. Being out in the front of what is possible, enabling the latest and
greatest a lot of people find attractive. Popularity has to be at least
sufficiently high to recover the cost and complexity (investment in
time, construction etc), or else you'll have a technically perfect
product that doesn't have an audience, or by the time it's done, the
avant garde has already moved on.

"I don't know anyone recording digital from an OPPO" Well, there can be
many reasons for that (e.g. you have to get the Oppo, and the board for
digital out, and what equipment is there to capture it on the PC etc
etc.) or are you suggesting that since you don't know anyone that does
it, it is not worthwhile? Or are you saying it is a techically inferior
solution, etc etc or are you saying you don't know enough people, which
at least is a possibilty? It could also be because the solution I listed
doesn't have an audience large enough, i e it isn't selling in
sufficient numbers, but it could still be technically a really good
solution.

"Rip them via a modified PS3." I know it was possible on pre 2007 PS3s.
Is it possible post Firmware 3.55? I understand it's not possible to
roll back, but as you suggested in the beginning it may be because I
have not done enough research. That is is actually very exciting! I
would appreciate a link if you have one!

The Oppo with the 6 channels digital board is available today, BTW,
which is why I mentioned it in the first place. It's just one solution,
among many.
