For local music we are currently focusing on integrating with existing
content servers rather than implementing our own. LMS integration is
working well already now but we have support for other existing content
servers also on the roadmap and hopefully we can have some of them ready
already before the initial release. We want to integrate with LMS
because it's the best thing out there for more advanced users, but we
also doesn't want to rely on it because we understand that there are
people who would prefer other less geeky or pre-installed content
servers.

Is there any specific content server for local music which would be of
interest to you except for LMS ?

First of all, the solution isn't limited to Squeezebox compatible
hardware, the idea is that it should be possible for any hardware vendor
to integrate with ickStream. We don't want to make another proprietary
solution that only works on hardware from a single vendor, we want to
create a software platform which makes it possible for you to buy
hardware from many different hardware vendors and use them in the same
system.

Regarding Squeezebox hardware we have an early prototype for Squeezebox
Touch/Radio, the older Squeezebox models (Classic/Boom/Transporter) is
something we really would like to support on longer terms, but as
mentioned a bit earlier in the thread it's a bit more complicated so
it's not our main priority in the near future. Support for older devices
might still be available before we launch, we just can't promise it yet.
In addition to this we also have some other players for non Squeezebox
hardware, like for example Android and iOS.

If some developer in the community is reading this and would be
interested to work on integrating the older Squeezebox models already
now, please let us know via mail or PM.

Is there anything specific you would like to know ?

We plan to regularly release more information in our newsletters, which
you can subscribe to on our web site (http://www.ickstream.com), and
this information will also be posted on our blog
(http://blog.ickstream.com). The web site will of course get more
information when we are getting closer to a release.

In my mind, the biggest reason to not bail out at the moment is that you
probably feel like I do. Basically, nobody else is providing what you
really want and there are several projects currently active with people
from the Squeezebox community who probably have the best understanding
of your needs. If your system is working, there is no urgency to switch,
it's a lot better to wait and see how things evolve.
