LMS integration is working well already now but we have support for other existing content servers also on the roadmap and hopefully we can have some of them ready already before the initial release. We want to integrate with LMS because it's the best thing out there for more advanced users, but we also doesn't want to rely on it because we understand that there are people who would prefer other less geeky or pre-installed content servers.

We plan to regularly release more information in our newsletters, which you can subscribe to on our web site (http://www.ickstream.com), and this information will also be posted on our blog (http://blog.ickstream.com). The web site will of course get more information when we are getting closer to a release. In my mind, the biggest reason to not bail out at the moment is that you probably feel like I do. Basically, nobody else is providing what you really want and there are several projects currently active with people from the Squeezebox community who probably have the best understanding of your needs.
