Thanks for all your advice, it's appreciated. Pippins idea with 'spare thingies' made me think of, that my kids both have dumped their first laptops, so maybe I could use one of those instead of buying a Pi.
It is a small Packard Bell Kav60 running Windows XP. How do I set it up, so that it wakes/sleeps on wifi? Garym, I stream FLAC, so it can't be a bitrate issue - but I might look for some new pc-speakers.
