With an old laptop you have several possibilities to consider. Keep XP or install some linux OS on it .
The players to use are SqueezePlay or Squeezelite . Is the internal soundcard good enough or should some USB DAC be used , but this migth not be an issue unless you get really good speakers and the internal sound is really bad . You may have to investigate how to set up the PC for best sound , is there a SqueezePlay version with asio or wasapi support ? But don't get to bogged down in esoteric discussions regarding this . WOL over wifi is a very rare functionality that must have hardware support , it's safe to assume that most laptops does not have that . And the WOL function in LMS works the other way around the players can wake the server .
