If you are going laptop then try to find one where you can remove the battery but still run it off mains. Some have mains input into the battery direct some into the laptop outside of the battery. WOL is unlikely to work even on an Ethernet connection as above as Laptops hardware spec doesn't forsee a need for it. If you have XP installed first try Squeezeplay into either a USB DAC or active speakers with a USB interface. Forget the onboard sound card - it will be rubbish.
