Well, it is just software, but writing micro-controller code is a very specialized art. Not at all like writing for an Intel x86. The proprietary stuff is just a barrier to entry, requiring someone much smarter. Most of them are hacking more widespread stuff, like PSPs or xBoxes or routers. > upload a unoffical file somewhere.
