I’m not an audiophile and I always try (except rare cases) to not enter
debates on that topic. So IMHO, SB3 is a perfectly good device. You can
use it’s spdif output as well. Regarding server, I highly recommend
using a Pi. It’s small, silent, power-efficient. You can use the
dedicated PiCore or just use their Debian (raspberry pi OS...) if you
want to have a plain Linux system). It’s as easy to setup as copying a
SD card, doing a wget of LMS then a dpkg of the downloaded file

LMS 7.9 on Pi 3B+ & Odroid-C2 - *SqueezeAMP!*, 5xRadio, 3xBoom, 4xDuet,
1xTouch, 1 SB3. Sonos PLAY:3, PLAY:5, Marantz NR1603, Foobar2000,
ShairPortW, JRiver 21, 2xChromecast Audio, Chromecast v1 and v2,
Squeezelite on Pi, Yamaha WX-010, AppleTV 4, Airport Express, GGMM E5,
Riva 1 & 3
