The intent is to "bury" these things in the wall. I really can't see myself
walking around with a remote.
Pardon my ignorance, but what software would you suggest.

To a networked device, SlimServer is just another
web page.
It doesn't matter what software this device runs,
if it can see a web page, it can control SlimServer.
The handheld skin makes the page more functional
and look better on smaller screens.
