I took: "As such, I'm unlikely to get into a rewrite of this type. I don't allocate my time to plugins like I used to." to mean that it's not likely to be developed further...
My workaround today is to forward all my gmail to a pop3 account that I wasn't using, and that works fine. Though duplicating email is going to be a pain to manage The only bit of info I can add to this gmail problem, is the gmail notifier uses port 80 according to my firewall logging software, whilst Thunderbird checking gmail checks on port 995. Oddly they go to different IP addresses. The firewall log doesn't tell me if any secure connections are being setup. The IP addresses are for Thunderbird; 72.14.205.99 whilst the gmail notifier checks 72.14.205.9 I could try putting this alternate IP address into the pop3 checker, but I'd assume that the IP address may change? mmm.
