Wired has a place, that's for sure. I never do online banking/paypal etc via wireless.
Also (if I recall correctly) all wireless devices share the 54 mbits. where wired going through a switch is 100 mbits device to device. So even if both systems were 54 mbits, the wired one will be higher performance if there are more than two devices talking amongst themselves. IE wireless is more of a HUB concept.
