I am currently running a wireless network at home using a Linksys 4 port
wireless "B" router with a signal booster/extender attached. On the
network is a new SqueezeBox, a Linksys wireless ethernet bridge having
a fixed IP address connected to a print server and four late model Dell
laptops all with Centrino chips and Windows XP. My laptop which
connects wirelessly to the router is running the current version of
slimserver. We are connected to the internet via a new Speedtouch DSL
modem. Generally I can expect to listen to the SB for about 20 to 30
minutes and then it goes dark (signal strength at 90%+), back at my
laptop I will find that I am no longer connected to the network and
that the led light for the wireless network is off on the router. When
I try to repair the connection in Windows it says the connection cannot
be repaired and that the TCIP is not configured for such a connection.
If I reboot the router all is fine again until I turn on the SB. In a
fit of frustration I connected my laptop to one of the free ports on
the router and suddenly all problems vanished and I listened for four
uninterrupted hours. Does the laptop need to remain connected to the
router for this to work or is there some setting that I have missed
that would allow me to continue to listen and to take my laptop out to
the deck?

Thanks, David Thomas
