Along with IR blaster there are amps that are supposed to shut off when
Slimp3 stops sending rca signals, like the Parasound Zamp. 

Then you've got to hide the amp somewhere. Is there room in the wall
unit above it? I would have the electrician run an outlet to the
cabinet (if that's what you mean by wall mount), if it satisfies
electrical code in your area.

What I would probably do is put a cheap receiver in the nearest pantry
and run longish RCA cables to the Slimp3. You could then run an extra
set of speaker wire for outdoor speakers/garage/dining room etc., as
well as the in-wall speakers.
