My wife loves the squeezebox and uses it all of the time! My 3 year old daughter loves to listen to music, so it makes it really easy to put music on for her. She's not adventurous with it (i.e. doesn't bother with SqueezeNetwork or Internet Radio), but is perfectly comfortable using it.
When I first suggested getting a Squeezebox, she asked how large it was, what it looked like, and where I would put it. She wasn't totally put off by the answers, but wasn't thrilled either. She doesn't like a "wall of electronics" as she puts it. During the discussion, it came up that daily use of CDs would become a thing of the past. Her and my daughter's ENTIRE music collection would be available with the remote. There would be no more clutter of CD jewel cases anywhere in the living areas. Then she was sold! I think we've used the CD player once since we got the squeezebox 4 months ago. I've since bought a 2nd squeezebox as well. The fact that she has an iPod I'm sure helped. That was an easy sell too "you mean I don't have to carry around a pile of CDs in the car? Cool!" The basic concept of browsing and playing music is the same. Now, if she had to deal with the dirty work of ripping CD along with encoding, organizing, and tagging tracks, she probably would not be bothered. It's not that she couldn't do it (she's certainly smart enough), she would have zero interest in it and would find it boring. As somebody else mentioned, it's important to hand off the remote, show where the power button is, assure that there is no danger of breaking anything that can't be fixed, and walk away. That's exactly how I figured out how to use it at first! Certainly packing away the CDs and forcing the issue isn't a good idea. I thought this was an interesting thread. I wonder how teenagers in the household react to the squeezebox? Do they think it is cool? Do they care how it works or how it is set up? Or would they rather use their iPod and iTunes off their computer? -- maggior ------------------------------------------------------------------------ maggior's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9080 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=34495 _______________________________________________ discuss mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
