The question is not whether DNS is working on your system but why does Slimserver method of determing it is not working.
I'm not very familiar with DNS set upbut I think it is worth investigating ipconfig say the DNS server is your router and not your ISP DNS server as is the case on my XP/Linux systems. Are you using DHCP ? DHCP usually sets up DNS servers IP addresses.
