Some of the Cowon players handle FLAC also. You may find that it works out better to keep a parallel MP3 library for your portable, rather than store FLAC on it directly. If you are listening with earbuds, in a noisy environment, etc. you may not be able to tell the difference in the audio quality. FLAC will also consume much more space and drain the battery faster.
