The whole point is to have a simple, fairly inexpensive, single unit that can be moved around and plugged in anywhere around the home.
I do understand that some sacrifice in sound quality will have to be made in order to make it affordable and small enough to be portable. The ipod speaker box was only an example of size and portability. I don't expect anything to be ipod format compatible.
