I currently have two My Book 500GB hard drives. One is in use the other is stored away as a back up. Both of these drives are very quite. If i get my ear with in 5-6 inches of the drive i can hear it but when i am sitting in my chair 3-1/2 feet from the stereo rack i can not hear them at all. I am not trying to say that all My Books will be this quite but from my experience they are very good.
