You might as well to avoid further degradation - if they were
decompressed from MP3 and you compress them back to MP3 or AAC they
will degrade even more.  And disk space is cheap.

If they have DRM you won't be able to play them on the Squeezebox
anyway - the solution there is to copy them to CD and rip them
losslessly.  But there's nothing you can do to make these files better,
the sonic data has been lost permanently, so if they sound bad to you
they'll always sound bad.  Which is why you should only rip in lossless
or get high-bitrate, quality files without DRM.
