I have had the same problem as most in this thread. That being, since upgrading to Vista, SlimServer fails to start and stays in the Starting... mode.
This week I upgraded ZoneAlarm due to a scheduled upgrade and now SlimServer starts correctly. I made no changes to SlimServer, it just started working after upgrading ZoneAlarm.
