There is a near perfect correlation between the number of churchs in a city and the number of murders. Does this mean that churches cause murders? That is what your argument is saying. In addition to record sales, car and truck sales are way down. Circulation of newspapers are way down. There have been attempts by lots of papers to charge for their electronic copy, They have failed. Even the New York Times gave up and is providing free, advertising supported versions of their paper's content. Perhaps a better assessment is that the music isn't worth buying? Or that folks have other things to do? > I wonder how many of the people on these forums > who talk about having many, many tens of thousands of tracks, have > acquired those tracks in an appropriate way. I have 781 albums with 9772 songs by 494 artists. You are calling me a thief. You are wrong, and such acquications destroy any hope of standing for your argument. > The DRM approach was an attempt to try to > keep a lid on impermissible use, but the problem is that it also limits > what otherwise is fair use by the purchaser of the copy. DRMs have all failed. They turn paying customers into accused theves. Its no way to treat your customers. Unlike you, I have been in meetings at the RIAA. I was part of a business to encourage legal internet music. The RIAA initially agreed that we would increase music sales. But they changed their mind, and crushed our business after we had purchased and ripped 40,000 albums. You reply to my message and accuse me of being a crook.
