Pat -

Thanks for the chuckle from your rambling comments, my words were not
directed at you at all, not directly or by innuendo. Reread what I
wrote if you care to, I was talking broadly about a problem in the
music industry. WARNING - NEXT COMMENT NOT DIRECTED AT YOU - I find it
both troubling, and ironic, that apparently so many Squeeze customers,
who presumably are music enthusiasts, are unable to understand the
inter-relationship of the health of the music industry to their
continued ability to obtain and enjoy new music from a wide variety of
artists. If a large percentage of music distribution continues to be
through illegal sources, there will be fewer music companies, fewer
artists, fewer new artists, and less music being produced. I'd argue
that "free" music is much too expensive because of these consequences.

Maybe I misread what I see on these forums - it's the carping about
availability, distribution rights of the various internet radio sites,
limitations on use, ads, size of collections, etc., that tells me there
is widespread misunderstanding here about what is going on in the world.
No question that RIAA and music companies have been in panic mode for
last 5-10+ years - they don't know what to do, they're frantic, they
make stupid decisions. But the storm hasn't passed.

And for Mr. Dwarf -
If you think albums are crappy, I think more blame belongs with the
artists than with the record companies, but there's probably enough
blame to go around for everyone. And, by the way, this is not a new
phenomenon - it's been this way for at least the 40 years I have
actively been a music fan.

Piracy is the biggest problem. I agree, you should not pay $16 for a
crappy album with only one or two good songs. And today, it is easier
than ever before to just pay for what you want to have. And if everyone
pays for what they have, the problem goes away, and the DRM issue (which
I also hate) becomes moot.
