I think in the Apple world, simple and elegant wins out over the
minutia of configurability options.   I don't quite understand why the
Braille drivers are taking so long to materialize.  To me,
conceptually, it seems as easy as piping the VO caption panel to a
plain text (tty, teletype) device.  An appropriate little deamon
should be able to handle that.  The only other piece is for the input
keys on the braille display to emulate a regular keyboard.  Again,
that should be straightforward for a USB native devices (I am not so
sure about those using serial to USB conversion, it seems like the
bi-directionality would be more complicated).

It is so easy for non-programmers to say how easy things should be...
