Hi
Yes, audacity is reasonably accessible--imho, the most annoying parts is actually in the file chooser dialogs, they're the old style. However, the editing functions are quite useable. Just make sure you read the keyboard shortcuts list and, on OS X, when it says control in the list it means command. And you'll want a gig of ram at least in order to edit audio, 512mb will work but will be extremely slow when applying effects.

I just wanted to ask folks how successful were they with using Audacity to edit sound files, in particular I'm interested in editing mp3 files. I thought I'd ask before installing it as there seems to be quite a bit of additional stuff to really make it work so I wanted to be sure it was reasonably accessible before going through the process of installing all this stuff. Now perhaps I misunderstand what all has to be installed, but I got the impression from what I read there a few items needed before you can really get into editing mp3 files.
