You have an account on the other machine right? I realize it's a
basic question, but you can never be too sure.
You have to use an existing user-id/pw combination.
Also, if you have a firewall running, it may not allow the fs packets
through.
If it can see the other macs, you may not need to login at all,
simply try browsing them from the finder to see what it shows. They
may already be mounted somewhere, and it's just not showing it.
