Hi all,

Here's how I set up root password.

In utilities, there is an app, neet info manager. In security under the mennubar, click authenticate and type your admin password in the box provided changing your "short name" to the admin onee if nescessary. Press enter. You can then under security in the menubar, activate root. You'll be asked for a password. You may actually be able to change root password first which activates root bbut I don't remmber.

I hope this helps.

Definitely tim'ss way of doing it makes sense though I haven't looked at the dvd for the "set master password". In my case, when I set up fink I was given the chance to set up a password which I did for sudo but that didn't work using su. I finally figured out I could do
sudo passwd root
enter my passwd for sudo and do a root passwd which works for su. what's kind of strange about it is that now I have two different passwords: one for su and one for sudo.
