After giving Voiceover a days work worth of effort I was skeptical that
people could use it for day to day tasks, but you guys have convinced me
otherwise.

That is great you have an open mind. Were other reviewers as serious.

There seems to be general consensus that there needs to be a central
resource for a voiceover users guide created by the knowledge of this
list. A day after posting an offer to create one, there has been good
support for having such a central resource, the only concerns were about
who should set it up.

Certain folks have been asking for a Wiki for over a year. I think it
is a great idea, but no one has stepped up to the plate in all this
time.

Another piece of vapor ware is VO guide for Jaws switchers. It seems
like we keep getting requests. The person asking is asked to start it
out as they learn (one is a VO newb only once after all) and then
nothing, even though the person becomes a a regular on MacVisonaries.
I think it is because the learning curve is a little steep in the
beginning, and one naturally tries several unsuccessful strategies and
techniques before subtly falling into the groove. You start to get
the hang of the VO way of doing things, but don't realize it is
happening until you almost have it mastered. This phenomenon, if I am
not imagining it, makes it tricky to make notes.

so how about we get this started now?

Yes, but where? The WikiPedia stub?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VoiceOver

Please be advised that the following resource is remarkably fragile:
http://home.adelphia.net/~bmss/vo/

My preferred implementation is PHPwiki because of the wiki syntax

My only question is how VO friendly are the results?

MediaWiki
(http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/MediaWiki) are other options.

MediaWiki is the engine behind WikiPedia and it has a good reputation
for accessibility with WIndows screen readers.

If I set this up, are there any objections?

Of course not, I suspect whoever is first mover on this will get lots
of support from the group. I was sorry Saqib never was able to pull
anything together, I know he wanted to.

One worry is that most people posting on MacVisionaries cannot be
bothered to follow long established usenet etiquette for listserv
email. My experience is that a wiki requires considerably more
discipline from the principle contributors. How will that be handled?
