I've found iTunes the most useful program for organising my music
collection, and allowing me to create and play things based on my
preferences.
On Windows I switched from Windows Music Player because it was (at the
time) slow and when you edited the MP3 'tags' it didn't update the
actual file, but iTunes did.
I think Gabe's issue is partially (or primarily) with the DRM used, and
I partially agree. Unfortunately it is necessary for Apple, they
wouldn't have been able to provide paid for downloads otherwise. It is
the main stream music business that needs persuading otherwise.
I very much hope iTunes is accessible with leopard, as it is a good
all-round option for organising and playing music. Previously I've
bought music from the store and converted it to MP3 with 'Hymn' as I
refuse to be locked down by a format, although that program hasn't
worked since iTunes 6 was released. Now I'm back to buying CDs.
