The firewall that comes with tiger is built on ipchain. This is the
same exact tool used by unix admins all over the world to secure
their commercial boxes. If configured properly, there isn't anything
more secure than a properly configured ipchain box. Since it works
at the packet level, you can't get more fine grained control than
that. Of course, with this level of control, comes great
responsibility, and a good deal of complexity, though apple has done
their best to limit this complexity, and make it as easy to use as
possible. You need not worry that the apple firewall is anything
remotely like the windows xp one. If it's good enough for sysadmins
in fortune 500 companies, it should be good enough for a home pc.
