canoscan lide 60

I'm having some trouble figuring out how to set up the canoscan.  
There don't seem to be any actual installation instructions that I  
can find on the cd. I do seem to have installed the toolbox and the  
canoscan application though you don't actually get a message saying  
installation was successful, but the apps are in my appliction  
folder. The setup on the cd doesn't seem to have anything but a  
window and no choices for actually setting up. when I went into the  
toolbox app on my mac preferences is dimmed so obviously I'm missing  
something here. Also, can somebody please tell me what the four  
buttons on the front of the scanner are from left to right. Sorry if  
I'm missing something really obvious here but I'm rather baffled at  
this point.
