You can delete items; it's just that you can't drag them to the trash. Instead, you select the to-be-deleted item and then use a key- stroke combination to delete it.

Below is a small (i.e., incomplete) list of commands that I copied and pasted from the help menus on my computer. It will give you an idea of how VoiceOver works, but you won't be able to use them on your computer, since you cannot install VoiceOver on systems Earlier than Tiger. For a ccomplete list, I suggest you look on the Apple Website.

VoiceOver navigation commands
Use these commands to move around the screen, move inside windows and webpages, and control cursor tracking. If you have an iBook or PowerBook computer, you may need to press the Fn key when you press a function key.
