Slau and anyone else still reading...

I certainly appreciate your position, having moderated in a number of much bigger forums than this one. I empathize with the position you were put in, and I admire your desire to allow Gabriel a chance to redeem himself, even if I disagree with it. I wanted to just clarify one other thing. Many people in favor of allowing him back on the list, yourself included, have had limited or no long term experience with the individual. This is an ongoing pattern with Gabriel that has been unchanged for the last six years through a variety of email lists and forums that I've seen him on, and likely longer even than that. I've seen him given chance after chance after chance, often playing to the sympathy of a newly appointed moderator. I have no doubt he'll behave himself for a brief period of time, and I have no doubt he will be banned sooner or later once again. I don't blame Cheryl at all for her decision to leave, and I doubt very much she'll be the only one.

I hope you will bear in mind that many of us, myself included, have already reached a zero tolerance level with Gabriel, and have been there for years in some cases. What seem like slight offenses will likely be taken worse by members of this list than seems warranted by those who have not lived through previous flame wars around him, because of his past behavior. The perverbial straw, in a way. In other words, I think it is possible that even minor offenses from Gabriel will be enough to cause more unsubscribing by members. I very much hope it doesn't reach that point, and I hope you realize what you're getting yourself into. *smile* Good luck. I don't envy your position.
