What about using rsync from the terminal. Do a man rsync and see if that
would do it. Probably
rsync -ar * destination_place
where destination_place could be a local drive or another machine with
ssh enabled. I've backed up my laptop to my desktop this way but I've
not been daring enough to restore it back to really test it out. All the
files look to be ok on the destination mac.
