Depends on what you want to do, I initially bought my Imic because
the first mac I had that being my Ibook didn't have an audio input so
I was able to use the Imic to connect the Ibook to my sound system.
If you're planning to use Skype or you want a good quality headset to
listen to audio through then a good pair of USB headphones with
microphone will do just fine for this sort of thing.

No its not, an Imic is a round disc like object if you like with a
USB cable coming out of it which plugs into the USB port of a
computer whether that computer be Windows based or not doesn't
matter as Imics seem to work on both.
On the disc are 2 sockets and a switch, one socket is a line-in/
microphone input whilst the other is a line-out socket, the switch
switches the input between line-in and microphone modes so if you
like, an Imic is an external sound device. What you have are USB
headphones.

An iMic is a very hand bit of hardware that give you a line in
