OK thanks a lot! I now have my applications. I was trying to launch
them from the Mac HD folder. ah well never mind. just another silly
thing i've done is that I have somehow managed to rename text edit as
"another silly document" no idea how i did that but if you could
let me know how to change it back I'd be greatful.

Press command shift A for the applications folder. Press command 3
to put that folder in column view and arrow down through the
applications. Let me know what you get.

OK I have had my Mac for less than 24 hours and I seem to have
messed up a bit!
just so you all know it's my first and I am trying hard to drive
it. it's hard to get my head out of the windows environment as
it's so easy if you see what I mean.
now all I need to know is
how to reset to factory settings? I am using Tiger at the moment,
the reason for resettin is that things seem to have changed and I
can no longer find applications.
sorry for the long winded email.
