I'm only repeating what someone else discovered, I'm afraid, and I
have no idea in the universe why character echo and screen echo are
linked like this in VO. Your verbosity settings should have absolutely
no influence on what gets spoken somewhere like terminal, but
experience seems to indicate that it does which comes under the
heading of extremely weird, if you ask me, <grin>.
I don't like it anymore than you do. I don't think I've used character
echo on a talking computer in 18 years or more, if I ever did, but go
figure. I haven't worked out yet which key echo setting, character or
word, is less annoying yet, but I'm sure I will, <grin>.
