I have macs and windows and the only time I have issues is when there are 
network or computer problems or when something is not configured correctly 
in which events, it doesn't show up at all.  I often will switch to icon 
mode temporarily to get the ball rolling though.  It might help to set your 
finder not to open springloaded folders or animate icons.

TK:  I've tried this at home and everything works as it should.  Now,
at home, I only have Apple File Protocol things to see but I'm not
convinced that that is the issue.  I'll take a closer look tomorrow at
school where I have both Apple and Windows and see what happens.  I'll
let you know.
