So, since you have issues when directly connected to the modem, it is either a modem issue or a cable issue. I didn't know verizon offered cable. Are you talking fios?

I also tried connecting the wire to my Macbook when the service wasn't working and that did nothing. At that point, even the main computer that's hooked up to the router wasn't receiving a signal.
