Hi,

This is a very emotional issue for Mac users. I tend to agree with Greg about the scam, but his historical statement is way off. In the late 80's there were several nasty nasty viruses on the Mac. nVIR resource virus comes to mind, and don't you remember Disinfectant, the best free antivirus software developed out of Northwestern University. Free.

Today, there are virus and Trojans for the Mac. However, good hygiene is usually your best defense. In fact, I've seen more damage caused by bugs in antivirus software thant run under OS X, than actual virus damage.

So, practice safe-Macs, and you'll be ok, in my opinion. That means turning off opening safe file types in Safari, don't run attachments you don't expect, etc.

My .02.

I always thought that anti-virus software for Mac was a scam. Just what are they protecting us from? There are no known MacOS viruses. I've run Macs for over 25 years now and have never used anti-virus software.

 Hi there all,
I'm not sure whether or not this topic has been discussed on this list, but I'm wondering if I should invest in a virus removal program for the mac? I did see that Norton Antivirus does make a version for mac OSX, however I didn't know if anyone out there had a preference? Any info would be much appreciated.
